2014 AW Men’s Fashion Week Recap
January is anything but slow for dapper fashionistos of the men’s fashion world. Whereas most people and industries have a sluggish return to work after the holiday season, men’s fashion labels and designers use this month to showcase their collections in a one week blitz of menswear craziness. Last Friday marked the end of 2014’s early fashion events specifically tailored to men’s apparel. London Collections: MEN and Pitti Uomo 85 wrapped up their eye-catchy pieces last week as they successfully gave stylish men (and women) around the world a glimpse of the tempting clothes and accessories to come. We give you some of our highlights, in 3’s, from these important men’s fashion affairs.
3 Favorite Collections from LC: M

Hardy Amies:Even on the first day of presentations, we already knew Hardy Amies' handsome coats and handbags for men were going to be a favorite of ours from LC: M. You can't go wrong with British tailoring! The label shows you don't have to wear outlandish pieces to stand out from a crowd; sharp classics can do the job just as fine, maybe even better.
Alexander McQueen: How does a monochromatic collection become understated and ostentatious at the same time? Just take a look at the AW14 collection from Alexander McQueen and you’ll know how. The label harmoniously mixed bravely shaped menswear pieces with glorious black shades and occasional flashy patterns.
Burberry Prorsum: Colors and prints and bags and blanket scarves! We loved the oversized menswear pieces that draped the models that showcased the Burberry Prorsum collection! Under Christopher Bailey’s care, the label produced a fun, lively menswear collection.
3 Favorite Collections from Pitti Uomo 85

SuperDuper Hats: Lots of men these days share similar hairstyles; you know, tight at the back and sides with a longish coif at the top. Instead of looking like everyone else with the “hairstyle of the moment”, why not be a rebel and put on a good-looking hat? That’s why we think what SuperDuper Hats is making is wonderful: quality, handmade hats from Italy that perfectly complete dapper outfits.
Diesel Black Gold: Creative Director Andreas Melbostad’s first menswear collection did not disappoint. Being this year’s guest designer for Pitti, Diesel Black Gold treated the audience with edgy menswear pieces characterized by impeccable tailoring and stunning details.
Komono Watches: You’re going to end up chatting with many strangers about what’s on your wrist if you decide to rock the playful timepieces Komono displayed in Pitti this year. Navy, grey, and black apparel, traditional menswear favorites, are well-complemented by the bright colors, patterns, and textures of Komono Watches.
3 Overlapping Trends from this Men’s Fashion Week

Monochrome: As the stylish happenings in London and Firenze had to do with Autumn/Winter attire, it really wasn’t a surprise to see a resounding presence of men’s monochrome fashion collections. Color was definitely the exception for the men’s fashion week that just ended, and we love what the designers have done with their tastefully dark creations.
Peacoats: From the runways to the street style scenes, well-dressed men were donning peacoats to declare stylish victory over cold weather. With a never-ending variety of cuts, colors, and materials, these coats kept their wearers devilishly charming in front of lenses and fashion observers.
Bags:Did you feel the love for handbags for men? Weekenders, totes, carryalls, and briefcases in leather and canvas varieties were easily spotted being nonchalantly carried by models and attendees alike. With suits and coats making up the majority of what men were wearing, handbags trumped backpacks and crossbody bags as the way to store essential items.
Want to further explore the terrains of the menswear world? There’s plenty of men’s fashion inspirations you can shop on Wantering.
